1 — System architecture: what kind of plant do you actually need?

Packaged, distributed or central plant; direct expansion, pumped circulation or secondary glycol; single-stage, two-stage or cascade. Architecture follows the load profile, temperature bands and site constraints — it cannot be chosen from a catalogue.

Ammonia is the industrial reference refrigerant for large, continuous low-temperature loads: zero GWP, outside HFC quota risk and strong efficiency at scale. It requires a machine room, gas detection, EN 378 / IIAR zoning and certified technicians within reach of the site.

Compressor type — reciprocating, screw or centrifugal — follows duty, temperature lift and part-load profile. Most industrial plants run far from design duty for most of the year, so part-load control and VFDs matter more than nameplate efficiency.
