1 — Pumps inside the refrigeration circuit

In a pumped refrigerant plant the circulation pump is part of the refrigeration design, not a utility item. Recirculation ratio, NPSH available at the separator, seal type and refrigerant compatibility are set by the plant, so the pump specification cannot be written before the system architecture is fixed.

A refrigeration plant almost never runs at design duty. How the pumps behave at 40–70% load matters more for lifetime cost than the rated efficiency point, and control strategy is the cheapest variable to change at design stage.

Assumptions: flow is derived from the heat load and delta-T you entered using ethylene glycol 30% properties (ρ ≈ 1045 kg/m³, cp ≈ 3.6 kJ/kg·K). Absorbed power uses the differential head you entered with the stated pump and motor efficiencies; it excludes strainer fouling allowance, future head margin, standby pump losses and control valve authority. Pump runs near its rated duty whenever the plant is on. Pipe sizing, NPSH available, materials, sealing and applicable standards still have to be confirmed by the plant designer.
