Ammonia refrigeration systems — industrial NH₃ plants, packages and conversions
Ammonia (NH₃, R717) is the efficiency benchmark for large industrial refrigeration — zero GWP, zero ODP and 10–20% lower lifecycle energy than HFC. ColdMatch sources single-stage, two-stage and low-charge packaged ammonia plants from specialist OEMs and EPC contractors worldwide.
What ColdMatch delivers
- Two-stage NH₃ plants for –40 to –45°C evaporating temperatures
- Low-charge packaged ammonia (under 1 kg NH₃ per kW) for smaller footprints and lighter compliance
- Screw and reciprocating compressor packages with VSD
- Ammonia/CO₂ cascade systems for ultra-low temperature and IQF
- HFC-to-ammonia conversion feasibility studies and turnkey retrofits
- PSM (Process Safety Management) compliant design and documentation
Frequently asked questions
When is ammonia the right refrigerant?+
Above ~300 kW of refrigeration duty, ammonia typically wins on lifecycle cost. Below that, low-charge packaged NH₃ or CO₂ transcritical often makes more sense than a full engineered plant.
Is ammonia safe in modern plants?+
Yes when properly engineered. Low-charge packages, secondary glycol loops, gas detection and machine-room ventilation bring ammonia risk in line with any industrial refrigerant.
Can ColdMatch help convert my HFC plant to NH₃?+
Yes — we source feasibility studies, engineered retrofit packages and turnkey conversion EPC scope from specialists who have delivered dozens of HFC-to-ammonia projects.
