How ColdMatch Group works — independent B2B procurement and sourcing platform — ColdMatch Group is an independent B2B procurement and sourcing platform for industrial refrigeration, cold storage and cold-chain projects from USD $250K+, where the ColdMatch team reviews each buyer brief, contacts suitable third-party suppliers on the buyer's behalf and organizes their responses.
Get matched with qualified suppliers
One RFQ — multiple competitive quotes from manufacturers, EPC contractors and turnkey providers worldwide.
Start Free RFQFreezer rooms and blast freezing: is this the right category?
Blast freezers and freezer rooms handle rapid pull-down (-18°C to -40°C) and long-term frozen holding. ColdMatch matches the duty you describe — tonnes per batch, entry and exit temperature, cycle time — to suppliers who build that class of equipment.
Best for
- Rapid freezing of meat, poultry, fish, bakery or ready meals with a defined batch size
- IQF tunnels, spiral or trolley blast systems where cycle time drives the design
- Frozen holding rooms at -18°C to -25°C attached to production
- Projects needing both freezing capacity and downstream frozen storage in one RFQ
Not ideal for
- Chilled-only storage above 0°C (use the cold room category)
- Small-batch laboratory or ultra-low (-80°C) freezing
- Refrigerated transport or reefer container needs
Information checklist before an RFQ
- Tonnes per batch or per 24 hours, plus required cycle time
- Product entry temperature and required core exit temperature
- Product format (carton, tray, loose IQF) and packaging
- Available floor area, ceiling height and utility connections
- Preferred refrigerant (NH3, CO2, HFC/HFO) or existing plant to tie into
- Backup power and redundancy expectations
What capacity blast freezer do I need?
Capacity is set by daily production tonnage divided by usable freezing hours, then adjusted for product entry temperature, target core temperature, piece size and packaging. A plant freezing 12 t/day over two 8-hour shifts needs roughly 750–900 kg/h of proven throughput plus contingency for peak season. Suppliers should confirm capacity against your specific product, not a catalogue figure.
What affects freezing time?
Product thickness and density, entry temperature, target core temperature, air velocity and evaporator temperature, packaging or wrapping, loading pattern and airflow short-circuiting, and defrost strategy. Thicker or packaged product can double freezing time versus unwrapped IQF pieces, which is why product data must accompany any blast freezer enquiry.
Blast freezer or conventional freezer — what is the difference?
A blast freezer removes heat rapidly with high air velocity and low evaporator temperatures to pass the critical zone quickly and limit ice-crystal damage. A conventional cold store holds already-frozen product at a stable temperature with far lower airflow and installed capacity per m³. Freezing product inside a storage room degrades both quality and the store's temperature stability.
- •Batch cabinets and trolley rooms: 200–1,000 kg/h
- •Tunnel and spiral systems: 1–5 t/h
- •Continuous IQF lines: 5–10+ t/h
Exact system sizing depends on required temperature, ambient climate, product load and turnover rate, door openings, insulation specification, storage duration, redundancy level and operating hours. ColdMatch does not manufacture equipment — we help industrial buyers compare suitable suppliers and technologies against project-specific technical and commercial requirements.
- •Country, project location and site status (greenfield or existing building)
- •Application and product stored or processed
- •Required temperature range and any humidity requirement
- •Storage capacity (m², m³ or pallet positions) and daily throughput
- •Ambient/design climate conditions at site
- •Available power supply and backup or redundancy requirement
- •Preferred refrigerant, if already defined by policy or regulation
- •Indicative budget range and target commissioning date
- •Product type, piece size, packaging and entry temperature
- •Required core temperature and available freezing window
Blast freezer buyer checklists
Freezing capacity is only comparable when every bidder prices the same product, the same freezing window and the same scope. Settle these points before you ask for quotes.
Data a supplier needs before it can price your project
- Stored product, packaging and unit load (pallet, crate, drum, carton)
- Temperature band and allowed tolerance, plus any pull-down or freezing duty
- Usable volume in m³ or pallet positions, and clear internal height
- Daily throughput in and out, door regime and peak-season profile
- Site ambient design conditions, altitude and available floor area
- Available electrical supply, grid reliability and backup power already on site
- Target operational date and any phasing
Project scope to fix before you compare bids
- Civils, slab, floor insulation and drainage — included or by others
- Envelope: panels, doors, air curtains, dock seals and protection
- Refrigeration plant, refrigerant choice, condensing and heat rejection
- Controls, BMS integration, monitoring, alarms and data retention
- Installation, supervision, commissioning and performance test conditions
- Spares, training, warranty terms and service response expectation
- Freight, insurance, duties, clearance and inland haulage responsibility
Energy and TCO assumptions to state explicitly
- Electricity tariff, demand charges and expected annual escalation
- Operating hours, seasonal load profile and standby periods
- Outage hours per year and the cost of running backup generation
- Defrost strategy, door losses and infiltration at real door traffic
- Maintenance, refrigerant handling and inspection costs per year
- Expected life, refurbishment point and residual value assumption
- Whether quoted energy figures are calculated, measured or catalogue values
How to qualify a supplier or contractor
- Comparable reference projects at your temperature band, scale and climate
- Who performs the engineering, and who performs site installation
- Local or regional service presence and realistic response time
- Spare-parts availability and lead times after hand-over
- Financial standing and the payment and retention structure proposed
- Clarity of exclusions — the exclusions list tells you more than the price
ColdMatch Group is a buyer-side procurement platform, not a manufacturer, contractor, EPC or lender.
