How are condenser and cooling tower pumps sized?

Flow follows heat rejection duty and the design temperature rise across the condenser, typically 5–6 K for water-cooled plant. Head must cover tower static lift, nozzle pressure, condenser pressure drop and pipework losses. Water quality and cycles of concentration drive material and seal selection more than duty alone.

Air-cooled or water-cooled condensers?

Water-cooled circuits with towers give lower condensing temperatures and better plant efficiency, at the cost of water consumption, treatment and pump energy. Air-cooled and adiabatic condensers avoid water use and treatment but run higher head pressure in hot climates. The right answer depends on climate, water availability, tariff and maintenance capability.

What information is needed to quote cooling water pumps?
