Chile Cold Chain Market — Buyer & Investor Guide

Chile cold chain: salmon (Puerto Montt), cherries/blueberries/table grapes exports, reefer ports Valparaíso/San Antonio, low-charge NH₃ standard, PV in Norte Grande.

Salmon corridor

Región de Los Lagos + Aysén: farms → Puerto Montt processing → reefer to San Antonio/Valparaíso → EU/US/Japan. IQF + blast + −25 °C storage; NH₃ low-charge is the local standard. Peak-shaving critical during summer peak processing.

Cherry / berry export peak

November–January cherry season for China (CNY window) — massive short-window pre-cool capacity in O'Higgins and Maule regions. Design forced-air pre-cool at 3–4 h to 7/8-cool, then export within 48 h. Blueberries and table grapes extend the window Oct–Apr.

Refrigerant & regulation

Chile ratified Kigali, phasing down HFCs. Ministerio de Medio Ambiente promotes natural refrigerants; NH₃ is the industrial default (>300 kW), R290 packaged for smaller loads. CO₂ transcritical gaining share in Santiago metropolitan retail DCs.

Financing & incentives

CORFO co-financing for energy efficiency and renewables, BancoEstado for SMEs, IDB Invest for private-sector cold chain, KfW/AFD lines through local banks. Green-bond framework mature — Chile is a Latin American leader in sustainable finance.

Frequently asked
