Paris fresh distribution rooms live and die on door discipline. A +2 °C chamber serving wholesale or foodservice picking can see hundreds of door cycles a day, and infiltration then becomes the largest single load component. Fast doors, air curtains, an intermediate dock at +8 to +12 °C and a picking layout that minimises traffic all reduce duty before any plant is selected.
Micro-fulfilment introduces a different problem: many small rooms, distributed across the city, each with high access frequency and no dedicated technical staff. For those, remote monitoring, alarm escalation and standardised maintenance access matter more than marginal efficiency. Specify connectivity and alarm routing in the design basis.
Design ambients of 32–34 °C in recent Paris summers should be used rather than older historic values, and condenser siting must satisfy the local noise condition. On dense sites this is the constraint that most often forces a rethink late in the project, so establish the permitted boundary noise level before the plant layout is fixed.
Refrigeration costs in Paris
French projects show a wide cost spread depending on whether the works fall under a full general-contractor arrangement or a direct mechanical package. Direct packages are cheaper on paper but transfer interface risk to the buyer; if you take that route, name the interface responsibilities in the exclusions register.
Energy cost in France is moderate by European standards, which shifts the optimisation toward reliability and infiltration control rather than aggressive efficiency spend. Even so, ask for annual kWh with stated door-open assumptions — it is the single most useful comparison figure on a Paris fresh-distribution project.

The cold storage RFQ process in Paris
Put the noise limit, the door-cycle assumption and the design ambient in the design basis as explicit numbers. Those three inputs determine most of the plant cost, and leaving them to supplier assumption is the main reason Paris quotes diverge.
Require the same return pack from each bidder: duty, annual kWh with door assumptions, boundary noise in dB(A), refrigerant and charge, monitoring scope, maintenance response times, programme and Île-de-France references.
