Refrigeration plant is sized for the worst day, not the average one. In markets with summer design peaks of 40 to 48 °C, condensing conditions, humidity and solar gain change almost every equipment decision — and a specification imported from a temperate market will underperform from the first heatwave.
What changes above 40 °C
**Condensers.** Air-cooled capacity falls sharply as ambient rises; evaporative or hybrid condensing is often required, which then introduces water treatment and maintenance obligations.
**Compressor selection.** Higher condensing pressure reduces capacity and raises absorbed power at the same duty.
**Envelope.** Roof solar gain, vapour sealing and door protection matter far more when the temperature difference across the panel is 60 K or more.
**Humidity and defrost.** Humid hot climates drive frequent defrost, which is both an energy cost and a temperature-stability risk.
