Cold Storage Blast Freezer: Sizing, Checklist and RFQ
Blast freezing

Cold Storage Blast Freezer: Sizing, Checklist and RFQ

Blast freezing pulls product from chilled or ambient temperature to a frozen core (typically −18 °C) in hours, using high-velocity air at around −35 °C to −40 °C. Use the planning calculator below to estimate refrigeration duty, run through the specification checklist, then send a structured request — ColdMatch reviews every request manually before researching suitable suppliers.

What ColdMatch delivers

  • Product type, packaging and core temperature in / out
  • Batch size (kg) and target freezing time (hours)
  • Room or tunnel air temperature and air velocity
  • Loading method: trolleys, pallets or racks
  • Site ambient temperature and available power
  • Where frozen product goes next: holding store or dispatch
How matching works

You submit one RFQ. Our team handles the supplier outreach.

There is no direct buyer-to-supplier connection. Your request comes to the ColdMatch team, which contacts suitable suppliers and manufacturers on your behalf. Supplier and manufacturer information on this site is for research only; it is not a contact directory and does not mean a supplier has been vetted.

  1. You build your project and submit an RFQ.
  2. The ColdMatch team validates and organizes the requirements.
  3. We contact suitable suppliers and manufacturers for you.
  4. We present their organized responses to you through ColdMatch.

Buyer brief · blast freezer

Blast freezer sizing: tonnes per day, not cubic metres

Blast freezers are specified by throughput: how many tonnes per day, of which product, frozen from what entry temperature to what core temperature in how many hours. Packaging, product thickness and air flow drive the freezing time. A blast freezer quote without these conditions cannot be compared with another.

Specify in your requestWhy
Tonnes per day and batch sizeSets evaporator and compressor capacity.
Product, packaging and thicknessThick or boxed product freezes far slower than loose product.
Entry and target core temperatureDefines the total heat to remove per batch.
Required freezing time per batchShorter cycles need more capacity and air flow.
Downstream frozen storage capacityBlast output must fit the holding room's daily intake.

Planning limits

  • Freezing times are product-specific; suppliers should confirm with their own calculation or tests.
