For commercial and industrial refrigeration projects (cold rooms, cold stores, process cooling) — not household fridges, home freezers or appliance repair. Results are planning estimates, not engineering design or safety advice; a qualified refrigeration engineer must confirm sizing before purchase.
Cold-Chain Landed Cost and Spoilage Sensitivity Calculator
Landed cost per sellable unit is the total cost of a refrigerated lot — product, freight, cold storage, duties and other charges — divided by the units that arrive sellable. Enter your own quotes and expected loss rate to see how much each point of spoilage adds. ColdMatch embeds no market prices or loss benchmarks; the starting values are a neutral example. Updated 14 October 2026.

No freight rates or surcharges are built in. Test the range your forwarder or supplier says their quote is exposed to.
Method and formulas
- Duties = quantity × value per unit × duty %.
- Total = product value + freight + cold storage + duties + other.
- Sellable units = quantity × (1 − spoilage %).
- Landed cost per sellable unit = total ÷ sellable units.
- Freight sensitivity: freight for lot × (1 + change %), then the same formula.
All amounts use one currency of your choice. Duties may in practice be assessed on customs value including freight; confirm with your broker. This does not model price changes, financing or claims recovery.
How this supports a cold-chain project
If losses dominate, compare the cost of better storage or monitoring with the loss scenario, using the energy and lifecycle calculator or the refrigeration load calculator. Projects of USD 250,000+ can be scoped through the RFQ; the ColdMatch team reviews it and approaches suitable suppliers on your behalf.
Buyer questions on freight, energy and supply risk
- Why test freight changes instead of using one freight number?
- Refrigerated freight quotes are often valid for a limited period and may carry fuel, war-risk or congestion surcharges. Testing a range shows how much of your landed cost depends on a number you do not control, before you commit to a project budget.
- Does shipping disruption in the Gulf affect cold-chain projects?
- It can, depending on your route and energy costs. As of 13–14 October 2026, news reports described repeated attacks on vessels in and around the Strait of Hormuz and heavily reduced commercial traffic (The National, 13 Oct 2026; The Straits Times, 14 Oct 2026). ColdMatch does not forecast freight or fuel prices; ask each supplier and forwarder which route, validity date and surcharge clauses their quote assumes, then test that range here.
- Where do I test electricity price changes?
- Operating energy is not part of a single lot's landed cost. Use the energy and lifecycle calculator with your own tariff and a higher and lower tariff case.
- How do equipment lead times and commissioning fit in?
- Ask every supplier for delivery lead time, installation and commissioning duration, and quote validity, then compare them side by side in the proposal comparison matrix. Later operation can mean more months of renting storage or carrying losses.
- Is this calculator free?
- Yes. It is free with no obligation to submit an RFQ or hire ColdMatch. Buyer procurement support is also free; managed RFQs are for projects of USD 250,000 and above.
