Project overview
A Southeast Asian life-sciences group commissioned ColdMatch Group to structure the tender for its regional biobank in Singapore. The facility supports vaccine trials, biologics and cell-and-gene therapy samples under WHO GDP and PIC/S GMP standards.
Challenge
- ULT temperature integrity across 120 freezers and long power-quality events.
- GDP + PIC/S dual-standard validation required from commissioning.
- Tight urban plot: refrigeration heat rejection had to meet BCA envelope rules.
Solution
- Redundant N+1 ULT freezer strategy across 3 refrigerant families.
- IQ/OQ/PQ protocols aligned to WHO PQS and PIC/S PE 009.
- Water-cooled condensers with heat recovery to domestic hot water loop.
Result
- Zero temperature excursions in first 18 months of operation.
- Regulator granted GDP + PIC/S approval on first inspection.
- 20% lower cooling energy intensity vs. air-cooled baseline.
Scope of works
- ULT −70 °C freezer array (120 units)
- GDP 2–8 °C validated cold rooms
- 24/7 wireless monitoring and alarming
- IQ/OQ/PQ commissioning and validation
- Backup power (UPS + diesel) and BMS
