Project overview

A Nigerian agri-processor consolidated post-harvest handling into a single hub near Lagos. ColdMatch Group tendered envelope, refrigeration, MHE and hybrid power as one coordinated package.

Challenge

  • Post-harvest losses estimated at 35–50% across their supplier network.
  • Grid downtime averaged 4–6 hours daily.
  • Client wanted a hub that could serve frozen, chilled and controlled-ambient categories simultaneously.

Solution

  • Three temperature zones with vapour-tight compartmentalisation.
  • Solar-hybrid power (400 kW PV + BESS) plus generator, minimising diesel run-time.
  • MHE and racking sized for third-party 3PL clients as future revenue stream.

Result

  • Post-harvest losses across supplier network reduced from ~42% to ~14%.
  • Grid dependence reduced by ~60%.
  • 3PL rental income covers ~25% of hub OPEX.

Scope of works

  • Multi-temperature insulated envelope
  • Refrigeration for 3 zones, N+1
  • Solar-hybrid power system
  • Racking, MHE and dock levellers
  • Operator training and 2-year O&M
