ColdMatch Group publishes 2026 cold storage cost benchmarks and a free cost calculator

ColdMatch Group, the industrial refrigeration and cold-chain procurement platform of Global B2B Group, has published open 2026 cost benchmarks for industrial cold storage together with a free online cold storage cost calculator. The release is aimed at industrial buyers preparing capital budgets for chilled stores, frozen warehouses, blast freezing capacity and pharmaceutical cold chain facilities.

The benchmarks put indicative installed cost at USD 250–650 per cubic metre for chilled storage and USD 350–600 per cubic metre for frozen storage, or roughly USD 1,200–2,600 per pallet position in a distribution warehouse. Blast freezing capacity is benchmarked on daily tonnage and freezing time rather than volume. Installed refrigeration duty is benchmarked at USD 900–1,800 per kW, with ammonia and CO₂ plant at the upper end of the range and lower lifetime energy cost.

Why the ranges are published with their exclusions

ColdMatch reports that the widest variance between credible quotations comes from scope rather than unit price: insulated floor build-up, incoming power and standby generation, redundancy level, racking, controls, monitoring, commissioning and spares are frequently excluded without being named. The published benchmarks list those exclusions alongside the ranges, and the calculator exposes the assumptions — temperature band, insulation specification, refrigeration technology, climate, door traffic, racking, backup power and electricity tariff — that move a figure.

What buyers can use today

  • A cold storage cost calculator returning an indicative installed range, cost per m³, pallet estimate, refrigeration duty and annual electricity cost.
  • Localised currency and climate assumptions in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German and Arabic.
  • A cold storage cost benchmark page covering price drivers and quotation comparison method.
  • A structured RFQ preparation route so suppliers price one identical scope.

Quotes

“Buyers rarely lose money on the equipment price. They lose it on scope they did not know was missing — floor build-up, backup power, commissioning, monitoring. Publishing the ranges and the exclusions together is the only honest way to help a project budget.”

“The same 3,000 m³ frozen store can price 40 % apart between two credible suppliers purely because of insulation specification, redundancy level and climate design assumptions. The calculator makes those assumptions visible before a buyer goes to market.”

About ColdMatch Group

ColdMatch Group is the industrial refrigeration and cold-chain procurement platform of Global B2B Group, where commercial and industrial buyers build a project and submit an RFQ; the ColdMatch team validates and organizes it, contacts suitable refrigeration technology and equipment suppliers on the buyer's behalf, and presents organized responses through ColdMatch.

ColdMatch Group is not a manufacturer, contractor, EPC contractor, engineering firm, lender or pricing authority, and buyers are never automatically connected to suppliers. Published figures are indicative planning benchmarks only. the ColdMatch project team review qualifying projects — generally from USD 250,000 expected total project value — before any supplier introduction.
