Cold storage & refrigeration RFQ — Zambia
Zambia is landlocked, so routing and power dominate the budget. Send what you already have and ColdMatch structures the brief around import route, ZESCO availability and the real product duty.
Reference project figures — Zambia
Modelled with the same audited engineering assumptions as the ColdMatch cold storage calculator: design climate for Zambia and an indicative industrial tariff of USD 0.09/kWh. Refrigeration duty is thermal kW, energy is annual kWh at a 0.55 load factor, and CAPEX is the installed volume-based cost (envelope, plant, evaporators, installation, controls and electrical work) — it is not scaled from the duty figure.
| Reference project | Refrigeration duty | Annual energy | Energy cost / yr | Installed CAPEX | USD / m³ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chilled room 400 m³ (+2 to +8 °C) | 8.5 kW | 12 MWh | USD 1,122 | USD 165,200 | USD 413 |
| Frozen store 1,500 m³ (−18 to −25 °C) | 67.3 kW | 173 MWh | USD 15,546 | USD 619,500 | USD 413 |
| Blast freezer 600 m³ (−35 to −40 °C) | 67.3 kW | 142 MWh | USD 12,813 | USD 467,280 | USD 779 |
Indicative planning bands only — not an engineering design, tariff quotation or supplier offer. Your own capacity, product, site and power situation move these numbers; send the RFQ below and a specialist works them through by hand.

Short form — the details you already have are enough. A specialist reviews every brief by hand and replies by email. Nothing is shared with manufacturers before that review.
What changes the price in Zambia
- Name the corridor — Durban, Beira, Walvis Bay or Dar es Salaam — because it moves both landed cost and lead time.
- ZESCO load shedding makes N+1 standby generation or PV-battery hybrid part of the base scope, with defined hold-over time.
- Lusaka and the Copperbelt differ in altitude and ambient conditions; condenser selection should reflect the actual site.
- Horticulture, maize, fish and meat each need a different pull-down curve and air-flow design — name the product.

Zambia cold chain RFQ — questions buyers ask
What does a cold room cost in Zambia?
As a planning range, a 300–1,000 m³ chilled room is typically USD 190–330 per m³ installed and a frozen room USD 270–450 per m³, before civil works and standby power. Freight and clearing on imported plant usually add 15–25%.
Which cities and sectors are covered?
Lusaka for distribution, retail and pharma storage, Ndola and Kitwe on the Copperbelt for processing and mining-camp catering, Livingstone and Mpika for agri-aggregation, plus fisheries on Lake Kariba and Lake Tanganyika.
What happens after I send the RFQ for a Zambia project?
A ColdMatch specialist reads the brief by hand, checks the design basis — capacity, temperature bands, site location, power situation, timeline and budget — and comes back by email with the open questions. Only after that review do we research suppliers. Nothing is sent to a manufacturer automatically and ColdMatch is not an open marketplace.
Can ColdMatch finance a cold storage project in Zambia?
No. ColdMatch Group does not lend and does not give financial advice. Qualified projects can be introduced to independent financing partners — equipment leasing, ECA-backed supplier credit on imported refrigeration and DFI or blended structures. Every approval decision rests with the lender.
What project size does ColdMatch work on?
Commercial and industrial projects from roughly USD 250,000 upwards: cold storage warehouses, blast freezers and IQF tunnels, ammonia and CO₂ plants, ice plants, GDP pharma stores and turnkey EPC builds. Smaller enquiries are still answered, but supplier research is prioritised above that threshold.
