How large a cold store is needed for 1,000 tonnes of frozen chicken?
At a typical packed density of about 350 kg per m³ of gross store volume, 1,000 tonnes of frozen poultry needs roughly 2,900 m³ of net product volume and about 4,600–5,000 m³ gross with pallet racking and aisles — around 460–500 m² of floor at 10 m clear height. Product form, pallet pattern and racking type change this materially.
How much refrigeration capacity does a cold room need?
Refrigeration load is the sum of transmission through the envelope, product pull-down or freezing load, air infiltration, internal gains (fans, lighting, people, motors), defrost and a safety margin. A frozen store in a 40 °C+ ambient typically needs far more installed kW per m³ than the same store in a temperate climate. The planner calculates each component separately.
How much electricity does a 5,000-tonne cold storage warehouse consume?
As an order of magnitude, a well-built 5,000-tonne frozen warehouse in a hot climate typically draws several hundred kW peak and consumes millions of kWh per year. The planner estimates peak kW, kWh per day and kWh per year from your calculated load, then applies your local tariff.
How much does a blast freezer cost?
Blast freezing capacity is priced from tonnes per batch, incoming and target core temperature and freezing time — not from room volume alone. Because the load is concentrated into hours rather than days, installed kW per tonne is several times higher than for static frozen storage, and so is the CAPEX per tonne.
How much solar is required for a cold room in Nigeria?
Solar can typically offset a meaningful share of daytime refrigeration energy in high-irradiation markets, but it does not replace emergency standby power. The planner sizes an indicative kWp against your peak load and the country's solar yield, and keeps generator sizing separate.
What is the CAPEX of a commercial cold store?
Indicative CAPEX combines the insulated envelope and civil works, the refrigeration plant, electrical and controls, racking, doors and docks, flooring, backup power and optional solar. The planner returns a range by build tier (basic commercial, industrial, high-efficiency) adjusted for country cost levels. Final pricing requires supplier quotations.
