Cold room insulation comparison
Compare up to three panel options by steady-state heat gain, the electricity your refrigeration system needs to remove it, energy cost and simple payback against option 1 — using your own quoted prices and datasheet values.
| Option | mm | λ | Heat gain W | Electricity kWh/yr | Energy cost/yr | Capex | Payback vs option 1 (yr) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Option 1 | 100 | 0.022 | 3,960 | 17,345 | 2,602 | enter price | — |
| Option 2 | 150 | 0.022 | 2,640 | 11,563 | 1,734 | enter price | enter prices |
| Option 3 | 200 | 0.022 | 1,980 | 8,672 | 1,301 | enter price | enter prices |
Formula and limits
Heat gain W = λ ÷ thickness × area × ΔT. Electricity kWh/yr = heat gain × 8,760 h ÷ 1000 ÷ COP. Payback = extra capex ÷ annual energy saving. Joints, thermal bridges, ageing, moisture and door frames reduce real performance; fire rating, food-contact finishes and structural span matter as much as λ.
First-pass planning estimate using steady-state formulas and the inputs you enter. It is not an engineering design, certification or supplier quotation; a qualified refrigeration engineer must confirm the design basis. Example inputs are placeholders, not benchmarks.
